Increasing Value

The Little Things Equal Success

We recently had a birthday celebration for my wife at Tutta Bella (disclaimer – we are friends with the owner, Joe Fugere). At least four people told me how great the pizza was (new Tutta Bella customers I’m assuming) and the last one said it when I was talking with Lisa Forrest.

It got us talking about how Joe does all the little things right. Not just any flour, “00” flour from Italy, San Marzano tomatoes, specialty food purveyors from all over the Northwest versus the national suppliers. Thus, a fantastic product.

What can we do to make things special?

  • It could be returning calls or emails (when others in our industry don’t do so).
  • Hiring the best people and paying them accordingly.
  • Acting on the advice from our advisors.
  • Treating customers like they’re valuable, which they are.
  • Taking pride in our product whether it’s a widget, fixing a machine, or advice.

I find when I make a list of things to do for the day if I break it down to the little things and prioritize them, I get more done sooner. And when you do more than asked…

“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it.” W.C. Fields
