Business BuyingExiting & Selling

A Second (Business) Life

By November 2, 2022No Comments

I was listening to Mark Zuckerman on a Joe Rogan podcast as they discussed virtual reality and virtual augmentation. My first thought was about an old episode of The Office where Dwight has a computer “program” (he says it’s not a game) called Second Life.

His second life avatar has his face, is also a paper salesman, and can fly. And his second life has its own second life. I’m assuming that means he’s not all that happy with his current life (or his first second life).

People looking to escape what they’re doing (we are The Escape Artist® after all) for a real second life are who we help:

  • The corporate exec looking to escape the corporate world to buy and operate their own business. They want their “second life” to include independence, control, the opportunity to be creative, financial rewards (although rarely on the top of the list), and they should definitely want it to be Fun!
  • Create a large exit for small businesses™ so the owners (of lower middle market companies) can exit with style, grace, and more money™.
  • Assist them in selling their business so their “second life” (their next great adventure in life) is what they want.

I’m guessing most of the people who meet the criteria above don’t do much in the way of alternative realities. They’ve got their best life possible when they buy and/or sell a company. That’s what all our lives should be.
